8 TV shows and movies to stream this weekend - The Boston Globe

There's snow in the forecast heading into a long holiday weekend, so cancel those plans, put on your PJs, and settle in for a fun movie night or binge-watching session. From an award-winning new dramedy to the latest installment from a galaxy far, far away, here are the films and TV shows you should stream this weekend.

Sebastian Stan came up big at the 2025 Golden Globes, winning the award for best performance by a male actor in a motion picture, musical or comedy, thanks to his role in the dark comedy "A Different Man." Stan stars as an aspiring actor named Edward who suffers from neurofibromatosis and has an experimental medical procedure performed to transform his face. However, Edward grows to regret the decision, as his new appearance leads to him losing out on a dream role. Available on Max

Jesse Eisenberg and Kieran Culkin team up for the buddy dramedy "A Real Pain," now streaming on Hulu. The film, which was written and directed by Eisenberg, stars the duo as a pair of Jewish American cousins who travel to Poland to honor their late grandmother, a Holocaust survivor. Culkin won the Golden Globe for best supporting actor, motion picture, this year for his role in "A Real Pain," which Globe film critic Odie Henderson called a "funny, bittersweet road trip" flick in his 3½-star review. Available on Hulu

An adaptation of author William S. Burroughs's 1985 novella, "Queer" stars former James Bond actor Daniel Craig as an American expat in 1950s Mexico City who falls for a much younger GI, played by Drew Starkey. The drama is the latest complicated love story from director Luca Guadagnino, who previously helmed the 2017 Oscar-winning flick "Call Me by Your Name" and also directed last year's sultry tennis romance "Challengers." Available to rent or buy on video-on-demand platforms

Rejoice, "To All the Boys I've Loved Before" fans, the hit Netflix film's spinoff "XO, Kitty" is finally back with a new season. Anna Cathcart returns as teen matchmaker Kitty, who wants to learn more about her late mother and Korean family, while also juggling romantically-fueled drama as she attends a prestigious boarding school in Seoul. Expect another season of chaotic love lives, as well as a surprise cameo or two from the "To All the Boys" universe. Available on Netflix

"Harley Quinn" continues to bring the laughs on Max, with the adults-only animated show back this week for a fifth season. Even if you aren't a superhero fan boy, "Harley Quinn" is a must-watch for its refreshing take on the genre, unafraid to bring the wacky, dark humor while poking fun at super-serious characters like Gotham's famed Caped Crusader. "The Big Bang Theory" star Kaley Cuoco shines as the voice of the Joker's ex-girlfriend, turning in one of the best portrayals of the character outside of late voice actor Arleen Sorkin. Available on Max

The coming-of-age "Star Wars" series, which dropped its season finale this week, ended up being one of the franchise's best recent installments outside of "Andor." Fans have fallen in love with its motley crew of young characters, who find themselves lost in space and at the mercy of galactic pirates, with the mysterious, Jedi-like Jod (Jude Law) as their untrustworthy guide home. "Skeleton Crew" is perfect for a weekend binge with the family (no prior "Star Wars" knowledge required). Available on Disney+

Bad news: The hit comedy "Monk" is no longer streaming on Netflix. Good news: All eight seasons are now on Prime Video (and also continue to stream on Peacock). Spend a weekend with the Emmy-winning comedy starring Tony Shalhoub as the beloved germophobic crime-solving detective. And once you're finished, check out the sequel movie, "Mr. Monk's Last Case," on Peacock. Available on Peacock and Prime Video

Looking for a scare this weekend? Ari Aster's directorial debut, "Hereditary," is now streaming on Netflix. The horror flick follows a family who fall prey to the occult and demonic possessions in the wake of their grandmother's death. While she was snubbed during the 2018 awards season, actress Toni Collette deserves a ton of praise for her masterful performance as mom and miniature artist Annie. Available on Netflix
