The Dead Zone is a David Cronenberg film based on a novel by Stephen King. It follows a teacher named Johnny (Christopher Walken) who awakens from a coma after five years and discovers he has psychic premonitions. When he meets populist political candidate Greg Stillson (Martin Sheen), Johnny sees a vision of him causing nuclear war. He becomes committed to preventing Stillson from gaining power and having his vision become reality.

All of the Purge movies are political, but Election Year is most relevant to inauguration day. This sequel sees U.S. Senator Charlie Roan running for president on a platform of ending The Purge. She is opposed by The New Founding Fathers of America (NFFA), who take away her exemption from crime just before the annual Purge begins. Together with her security chief Leo Barnes (Frank Grillo), Roan must survive the night of the Purge so that she can be elected and end the event for good.

Another relevant aspect of Election Year is the subplot of working class Americans being dropped by insurance companies as they struggle to deal with the annual wreckage.

John Carpenter's They Live is about a drifter, Nada (Roddy Piper), who discovers a pair of sunglasses that allow him to see things as they really are. In this case, that means when he wears the sunglasses he sees that the ruling class are actually aliens who wish for the working class to occupy themselves with mindless consumption. All around subliminal messages manipulate everyday citizens into conformity and obeying the elites.
