BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - According to an ESPN report, the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) has opened an investigation into an allegation that Jackson State University (JSU) football players and coaches accessed game-week practice film of Arkansas-Pine Bluff before the teams' game on Saturday, Nov. 2.
The allegations against JSU reportedly came to light on Oct. 31, two days before the game. Jackson State defeated Arkansas Pine-Bluff 41-3.
ESPN reported, "a UAPB player informed the coaching staff he was told by a Jackson State player that Tigers defensive players were in the Jackson State team facility watching practice film of UAPB from that week."
In the EPSN report, it says "after receiving this information, UAPB coach Alonzo Hampton logged into the software program the team uses to upload and review practice footage and saw that it had been accessed by the account of a former walk-on who had been cut in the spring."
A spokesperson for Jackson State told ESPN on Friday, Nov. 22 that no violations were found, and the case had been closed.
However, a SWAC spokesperson confirmed the investigation remains open after the conference received new information on the matter.
JSU claimed the 2024 SWAC Football East Division Title after defeating Alabama State University 16-10 on Saturday, Nov. 16.
Jackson will host SWAC West Champions, the Southern University Jaguars, in the 2024 SWAC Football Championship game on Saturday, Dec. 7 at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is at 1 p.m.
