Daniel Jones is no longer a New York Giant, as the longtime quarterback was released by the team Friday morning.
As Jones has parted ways with New York, he's set to enter a new chapter of his NFL career. His 2024 season in a Giants uniform wasn't going so well (seven interceptions, 46.5 QBR, 2-8 record), but with the veteran experience he can bring to the table, he's sure to draw interest on the open market at some point.
NFL fans drew their own conclusions Friday, with speculation about the Cowboys' interest in the QB growing to outright suspicion thanks to screenshots showing the quarterback's player card on the Dallas team website.
Did the Cowboys actually sign Jones? Why did Jones appear on the Cowboys' team website? Here's what to know about why the quarterback might have shown up on the Dallas webpage, plus the details to know on when Jones can sign with another team.

Just a few hours after the news that Jones would be released by the Giants, NFL fans noticed that Jones could be seen on the Cowboys' team roster page.
The link in question no longer goes to Jones' player card, now redirecting users to the Cowboys' full roster page.
Of course, due to Jones now being a free agent, some fans jumped to the conclusion that the Cowboys are set to sign the former Giant. Dallas is just 3-7 through Week 11 and will be without starting quarterback Dak Prescott through the rest of the 2024 season due to an injury.

Any anticipation of Jones wearing a Cowboys uniform should likely be slowed, however. Nick Harris, a Cowboys writer for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, helped explain that Jones' player card, among other opposing players' cards, is included on the team's website so it can be used in articles.
The Cowboys and Giants are set to play each other on Thanksgiving in Week 13, so a Jones revenge game would naturally be a thrilling storyline. But Jones' player card being on Dallas' team website likely isn't a sign of that possibility, as its been there for the Cowboys to post coverage about opponents' players.

Per ESPN's Field Yates, Jones is subject to waivers, so he must clear waivers before being able to sign with a new team.
If Jones opts to join a team for the rest of the 2024 season, he'd be eligible to sign at 4:01 p.m. ET Monday, Nov. 25.
