The Jackson Fire Department battled a fire at the former Morris Ice Co. building. On Saturday morning, firefighters responded to the building engulfed in flames. The building, located in downtown Jackson, was built in the 1920s and was known for being the oldest remaining ice manufacturing plant within Hinds County. According to the Mississippi Department of Archives & History, this building received imported ice cut from frozen northern lakes. In 2019, the building was bought by a new owner with hopes of restoring it. Jackson fire crews are still investigating the fire.
