SpaceX Launch of NRO Payload Planned for Early Tuesday at Vandenberg SFB | Local News | Noozhawk

A Falcon 9 rocket will deliver a gift of more spy satellites into orbit as soon as early Tuesday from Vandenberg Space Force Base.

The SpaceX rocket's departure may occur at 5:20 a.m. Tuesday from Space Launch Complex-4 on South Base, according to Vandenberg representatives.

Notices advising pilots and boaters about the upcoming mission had pinpointed the launch opportunity between 1:20 and 5:43 a.m.

Rocket launch times depend on where a payload needs to be placed in orbit.

The first-stage booster will land on the Of Course I Still Love You droneship in the Pacific Ocean.

The satellites on board the rocket represent the next batch for the National Reconnaissance Office's new "proliferated architecture," or campaign to place multiple smaller craft in space.

"This mission is the sixth launch of NRO's proliferated architecture, eighth launch of 2024 and last launch of the year," NRO representatives said.

A live webcast of this mission will begin about five minutes prior to liftoff, which can be watched on www.spacex.com or X @SpaceX.

The firm inexplicably skipped the countdown and liftoff livestream for three recent missions from Vandenberg. Federal authorities later announced the arrest of a Chinese citizen for flying a drone above the base.

Rocket launches can be delayed for a number of reasons including technical troubles, unfavorable weather and other instances.
