The Franklin Pierce men's soccer team's quest for a fourth consecutive Northeast-10 Conference tournament championships was halted with a 1-0 loss to New Haven in the conference semifinals on Wednesday night in New Haven, Conn.
The Ravens (11-2-5), who finished third in the NE-10 regular season standings, were No. 10 in Division II in the United Soccer Coaches' final Top 25 poll on Nov. 5 and can still receive an at-large bid in the NCAA Tournament as they chase a third consecutive national championship.
It is the Ravens' first postseason loss since the 2019 NCAA Quarterfinals and first NE10 postseason loss since 2018.
Wednesday, it was a scoreless first half, with the Chargers holding a 5-3 shot advantage. Keeper Karl Vernet came up with a save on a penalty kick to prolong the shutout.
New Haven broke the deadlock five minutes into the second half off a centering pass from Mattie Maiello.
Brackets for the NCAA Tournament will be released on Monday at 6:30 p.m.
