A motorist was killed Tuesday in a crash in Long Beach.
The crash occurred at about 7:35 a.m. at Wardlow Road and Palo Verde Avenue, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
According to police, the driver of a 2002 Toyota Sequoia heading east on Wardlow Road failed to stop at a red light at Palo Verde Avenue, while a 2014 Toyota Tundra traveling south entered the intersection on a green light, and the vehicles collided.
"The force of the collision caused the Toyota Sequoia to overturn and eject the driver," police said in a statement.
Paramedics pronounced the 35-year-old man dead at the scene, the LBPD reported. His name was not immediately released, pending notification of relatives.
Police said the driver of the Tundra remained at the scene and was cooperative during the investigation.
Traffic was routed away from the area while an investigation was conducted into the circumstances of the death.
Speed and distracted driving appear to be determining factors in the crash, police said.
