WASHINGTON -- A Texas man was sentenced Thursday to 22 months in prison for assaulting law enforcement officers during the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol, which disrupted the certification of the 2020 presidential election results.

Dustin Ray Williams, 33, of Brady, Texas, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Beryl A. Howell. In addition to prison time, Williams received three years of supervised release and was ordered to pay $2,000 in restitution. Williams pleaded guilty on July 11, 2024, to a felony charge of assaulting, resisting, or impeding officers.

According to court documents, Williams traveled to Washington, D.C., attended former President Trump's rally, and entered restricted Capitol grounds on January 6, 2021. He pushed through the crowd on the West Plaza to confront officers in a defensive line, shoving and grappling with police for about 30 seconds. Officers used pepper spray to repel him, but Williams returned to the police line, shouted threats, and remained on Capitol grounds for two more hours.

Williams documented his actions in a selfie video, posting on Facebook about being pepper sprayed and tear gassed. He stayed near the Lower West Terrace Tunnel, where police were vastly outnumbered, but did not enter the Capitol building itself. He was arrested by the FBI in Dallas on August 1, 2023.

The case was prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia and the DOJ's National Security Division with investigative assistance from the FBI's San Antonio and Washington Field Offices, U.S. Capitol Police, and the Metropolitan Police Department.

Williams' sentencing comes as part of an ongoing investigation into the Capitol riot, which has resulted in charges against over 1,561 individuals across nearly all 50 states.
