A new update reveals that WandaVision was originally slated for a ten-episode run. This only stokes rumors over another Avenger's cameo in the deleted Episode 10.
WandaVision creator Jac Schaeffer confirmed they wrote ten episodes for the series, but they trimmed the season before production. "WandaVision was originally ten [episodes], then, for logistical, budget, and creative reasons, we combined two episodes," she revealed during a The Q&A with Jeff Goldsmith interview. She did not elaborate on what that deleted episode contained, or how the supposed Episode 9 played out. The final cut's penultimate episode explored Agatha Harkness' backstory and Westview's "reconstruction." A mid-credits scene also teased a resurrected Vision.

The update is consistent with episode director Matt Shakman's reveal in 2021. "Things were constantly changing and getting rebroken," he told Kevin Smith. "The story was changing, especially a lot of the real-world stuff and the finale. There was a lot of experimentation going on and sort of trying different things out. We also at one point had 10 episodes planned and we ended up collapsing a couple, you know just to make the rhythm feel a little bit better." Some of the deleted content has been confirmed, including Doctor Strange's rumored cameo. An official deleted scene has been released, revealing Ralph Bohner's alternate ending.

WandaVision Made Agatha All Along and the Vision Spinoff Series Possible
Schaeffer said WandaVision served as her template for Agatha All Along's season. "Moving into the show I wanted it to have the same surface area and real estate as WandaVision, so yeah it was always nine," she asserted. WandaVision remains one of the MCU's standout releases; its unique premise leaned on nostalgia for classic TV sitcoms. It also introduced another sympathetic villain in Agatha Harkness, whose story was fully developed in her own TV show. A Vision series was revealed in development in May 2024, teasing the character's continuing arc in the MCU; a recent report confirmed Ultron will also appear in that show.

WandaVision's 2023 home video release release featured gag reels, deleted scenes, and a sneak peek of Agatha All Along. Schaeffer said her commitment to pursue Agatha's continuing story made the show possible. They also made sure the premiere episode revealed Agatha stepping out of Scarlet Witch's shadow.
"That's a great way of articulating it: her shadow," she told Entertainment Weekly. "Agatha is not a character who's going to stand in anyone's shadow. This is emphatically an Agatha Harkness show. However, we are in the WandaVision corner of the universe, so Wanda's legacy has threads in this narrative."
Agatha turned out to be a formidable vilain, sparking rumors she would become a recurring antagonist in the MCU.
