The South Santa Maria Rotary Foundation awarded grants to nine local organizations on Monday totalling nearly $10,000.
The awards were as follows:
M-CM Network, supporting families of those with macrocephaly-capillary malformation - $500Friends of the Santa Maria Public Library, for purchase of Spanish language books to give out for free at community events - $500Santa Maria Philharmonic Society, to support their free Library Concert series four times each year at Shepard Hall - $1,000Santa Maria in Action, to fund equipment and tools for neighborhood clean-ups - $1,000EconAlliance, to help fund a partnership supporting foster students with a workforce development pathway - $1,000Orcutt Youth Football, to provide scholarships for four students to participate in sports, enabling them to learn teamwork and receive health, socialization, leadership and other benefits of sports - $1,000OASIS Senior Center, in support of the Center's vast menu of health, physical, social and other activities for local seniors - $1,000Neurofighters, enabling people with neurological conditions to "fight back" by providing non-contact boxing style fitness and functional exercise designed to combat symptoms and help improve participant quality of life - $1,500Awakening Giantz, serving adults exiting the foster care system, organizing activities enabling its constituents to experience a sense of belonging and acceptance, providing a "family" of individuals with foster experience - $2,000.
South Santa Maria Rotary Foundation is part of the Santa Maria South Rotary Club, which is a local service organization affiliated with Rotary International, providing community service and funding for local and global projects.
