After a Decade in Exile, Coca-Cola Is Back in Costco's Food Court

LAFAYETTE, La. (KPEL News) - When it comes to the big box retailers that offer savings for buying in bulk, there are few as popular as Costco. It's got an almost cult-like following in some places (including here in Louisiana), and that popularity keeps growing.

One of the most popular parts of the store is the food court, with its popular hot dogs and pizza offerings. But a big change is coming to those food courts, and it's a change that will be welcome across the South, and Louisiana in particular.

Coca-Cola was the soda of choice for Costco food courts for decades. However, the company switched to Pepsi in 2013. At the time, the company said the change was to help keep the popular (and inflation-proof) hot dog combo, which has been a staple of the Costco food court since 1985, at $1.50.

However, switching back to Coke products does not appear to be causing much of a problem and definitely won't be affecting that combo. Despite losing money on the deal, according to CNN, Costco offsets costs by raising prices on other food court items, like pizza.

There had been rumors about the switch back to Coca-Cola for a while, and Costco's announcement was met with excitement from Coca-Cola fans. According to reports, a shareholder specifically inquired about the change during the meeting.

According to the website DataPandas, Coca-Cola is the dominant soda of choice across Texas and the Gulf South.

Coke is the No. 1 soda in Louisiana, with Pepsi being a distant fifth place.

1. Coca-Cola

2. Dr. Pepper

3. Root beer

4. Mountain Dew

5. Pepsi

Clearly, Louisiana shoppers will be thrilled with the Costco news (I know I am).
