The Southern New Hampshire University men's basketball team will play Northeast-10 Conference rival Assumption in a first-round NCAA Division II tournament game on Saturday (noon) at Daemen University in Amherst, New York.
The Penmen (21-8), who earned an automatic bid to the tournament by virtue of their 72-71 overtime victory over Pace on Saturday, are the No. 3 seed in the East Region. Assumption (19-9) is the No. 6 seed.
SNHU is making its 23rd NCAA trip and third straight.
The SNHU-Assumption winner will meet the winner of the Adelphi-Dominican (New York) contest on Sunday at 5 p.m.
The regional is being hosted by Daemen, which has a record of 27-0 and is the top seed. The school is located just outside of Buffalo.
St. Anselm women headed to NCAAs
The Saint Anselm College women's basketball team was selected for the NCAA Division II tournament and will play fellow Northeast-10 Conference member Southern Connecticut State University on Friday (7:30 p.m.) at Bentley University in Waltham, Mass.
The Hawks (17-9) are the No. 4 seed in the East Region. SCSU (19-10) is the fifth seed. The winner of the game will meet the winner of the Bentley-New Haven contest in a second-round contest on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Bentley.
Saint Anselm is making its 10th appearance in the NCAAs, first since 2020.
UNH's DiMatteo earns another Hockey East goalie award
UNHU senior Rico DiMatteo on Monday was named the Hockey East goaltender of the week for the second straight week.
The senior transfer from Long Island University backstopped both of UNH's wins over then-No. 17 UMass Lowell last weekend, making a combined 45 saves and allowing three goals.
DiMatteo and UNH visit UMass Lowell on Wednesday (7 p.m.) for a first-round game in the conference tourney.
