We spoke to several members and former members of a theater performance group Christian Youth Theater. The organization has member groups in several Texas cities including Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio. We spoke to the members assembled about the release of the movie version of Wicked.
Wicked, if you're not familiar, was and still is a huge Broadway smash. Each of the performers that we spoke to all mentioned they were excited to see the film adaptation but they also mentioned a bit of trepidation.
That trepidation came from a warning posted by the AMC Theater chain that suggested singing along with the movie would constitute a violation of the theater chain's noise policy. Just as there is no talking during the movie, there should be no singing. Which for "theater kids" or grown-up "theater kids" will be hard to do because the music of Wicked is so inviting.
By the way, this TikTok concerning the subject is the reason so many regular folks find theater kids annoying. But I do agree with Gwizzle, we all saw that coming, and yes you will be shushed if you sing in the movie.
Evidently, the producers of Wicked heard you before you even raised your voice. Those who want to sing with Glinda and Elphaba will get the chance to release and celebrate their inner Broadway star when Universal Pictures offers an interactive sing-along version of the movie.
The sing-along version will be sent to 1,000 movie theaters across the country and will begin showing the audience participation version on Christmas Day. There will also be other theaters offering special sing-a-long promotions and versions, so be looking for those announcements in the coming days.
