Solidarity HealthShare is calling on the incoming Trump Administration to fix the "nation's broken healthcare system" with widespread changes to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The current healthcare system is in need of "radical" overhaul of FDA restrictions and a refocus on personalized approaches that target the root causes of chronic diseases, according to a letter first obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation. President-elect Donald Trump has vowed to tackle health issues in the country as part of the Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) effort alongside former independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who Trump recently nominated for secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS).
"Over the past four years, Americans have seen the cost of their healthcare rise exponentially under a health system and an FDA plagued by waste and inefficiency even as the quality of care has plummeted," Solidarity HealthShare's letter reads. "For this reason, we respectfully request you thoroughly assess our current healthcare system which is no longer serving patient needs."
The organization is urging the Trump Administration to dissuade the healthcare industry from treating symptoms of chronic diseases such as cancer and heart disease instead of using comprehensive diagnostics and treatments that address the root causes of illness and to roll back FDA restrictions on technologies and treatments. By "overhauling the FDA's patent restrictions," the U.S. could also allow for alternative treatments and "unleash medical innovation."
The FDA's current patent restrictions are responsible for some of the soaring prices in medicine by blocking off-brand versions of products from patent approvals and preventing competition that keeps prices low, according to America First Policy Institute.
Solidarity also names "Big Pharma, Big Insurance and Big Hospital Systems" as contributing to the bureaucratization of medicine.
Environmental concerns also prompted Solidarity's letter, which encourages the future administration to implement harsher regulations on air and water pollutants that contribute to Americans' deteriorating health.
The Trump Administration should also push back on easily-accessed processed, nutrient-deficient foods and increase access to healthier options, the letter states. (RELATED: Biden-Harris Health Department Spent Tens Of Millions Annually On DEI)
Solidarity concluded its letter by encouraging the Trump administration to promote "each person's God-given dignity and inherent right to life" and protect the elderly, unborn and chronically ill.
