The Jingle Bell Build will see teams of six compete to create the best gingerbread house during the course of two hours Dec. 4 at Imperial City Brew House in Sarnia.

Registration opens at 5:30 p.m. with building starting at 6:30 p.m.

A panel of judges, including HGTV's Damon Bennett, will pick winners during the event intended to raise money for Habitat's home building program which provides families, who contribute "sweat equity," with affordable mortgages to purchase homes built with the help of volunteers, sponsors and donors.

Each team pays $450 for a "building permit" that comes with two gingerbread house kits, icing and candy, and a base to build on.

They will be able to buy additional kits, icing and candy at the event, as well as bring their own candy and icing, but all materials must be edible.
