Fifth-seeded Edison picked up bonus point wins in the final two bouts to inch out a 40-39 win over fourth-seeded East Brunswick in the quarterfinals of the Central Jersey Group 5 NJSIAA/IBEW Local 102 State Wrestling Championships tournament, hosted in Old Bridge.
Edison faces the top-seeded Knights in the semifinals.
Tyler Northern delivered the win in the final bout by pinning Daniel Montgomery at 120. Xavier Cheataam put his teammate in position for the match-clinching win by earned a 15-0 tech over Abdallah Rashad at 113.
The Eagles (11-8) used a fast start by its lightweights and lower middleweights to take an early 23-0 lead. Nicholas Campanelli pinned Abu Nazir in the first bout, at 126. Jeremy Negron followed that with a pin over Dominick Lezark at 132, Wijdaan Ashraf pinned Sarvesh Shitoly at 138, and Fernando Avellan earned a 25-9 tech over Jake Gujski at 144.
Eli Sanchez added six team points for the Eagles with a pin over Derrian Oliver at 190.
Adam Barsbai (150), Henry Zhang (157), Devan Monahan (165), George Crostewitz (175), Jacob Ring (215), Jose Rosado (285) and Gavin Lezark (106) all recorded pins for the Bears (7-13).
