House Ethics Committee won't release Gaetz report for now

The House Ethics Committee announced that it has not reached a decision on whether to release its report on former Rep. Matt Gaetz for now, after a Wednesday meeting in which the panel's members voted on whether to make its findings public.

The committee consists of five Republicans and five Democrats. Committee chair Rep. Michael Guest, R-Miss., told reporters after the meeting, "There was no agreement by the committee to release the report."

Gaetz, who is President-elect Donald Trump's pick for U.S. attorney general, was the subject of a House Ethics Committee investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct and illegal drug use. Gaetz has denied any wrongdoing.

The committee's jurisdiction over Gaetz ended last week when he abruptly resigned from Congress after Trump said he intended to nominate the Florida Republican to serve as attorney general. The committee has since faced pressure on both sides on the fate of the report.
