Real Madrid injury list expands ahead of Liverpool clash despite Thiabut Courtois return

Real Madrid have received mixed injury updates ahead of their return to action after the November international break.

Carlo Ancelotti's side are currently trailing rivals Barcelona by six points at the top of La Liga - albeit having played a game less than Hansi Flick's table toppers - with a derby clash against Leganes on the schedule on November 24.

Ancelotti will face Arne Slot's Premier League leaders in a repeat of the 2022 final where Vinicius Junior's goal saw Real Madrid emerge victorious in Paris.

However, their incoming clash with the Reds will feature a host of key absentees for Ancelotti, as he looks to assess his depleted squad.

Eder Militao will undergo surgery tomorrow - after suffering a second ACL tear inside 15 months - with the Brazilian ruled out until the end of the campaign.

Dani Carvajal is also missing - as another ACL casualty for Ancelotti - with his campaign over and David Alaba is not expected back until the start of 2025.

Lucas Vazquez has covered for Carvajal at right-back, but the veteran defender is rated as doubtful for the Liverpool, with Rodrygo Goes also facing a race to be fit.

Despite the gloom surrounding several players, reports from Diario AS confirmed one major plus for Ancelotti, with Thibaut Courtois returning to full training during the break, and he will replace Andriy Lunin in goal against Leganes and Liverpool.

Lunin has covered for Courtois twice already this season, but the Los Blancos No.1 has prioritised facing Liverpool, on the back of memorably turning in a Player of the Match performance against Jurgen Klopp's side in the 2022 final.
