To the Man Who Knows Whom to Ask: As gas goes up we drive less and watch more TV. One show features police activity around the nation. One of the segments usually features city police in east Arkansas patrolling the interstate. I seem to remember in past times that local police were encouraged to leave traffic control on interstate highways to the Arkansas State Police. Did something change? -- Retired and Riding the Roads.
Dear Riding: This question comes up periodically. In fact, we first answered it back in... we forget.
In any event, the director of the Arkansas State Police has the power to give municipalities the authority to work interstate highways. The list of municipalities, and the directors who gave permission, is actually posted on the website of the state police.
