Texas high school football: Austin-area UIL scores, highlights from Week 13 playoffs

The second week of the Texas high school football playoffs began with a blowout win and a shocking loss Thursday night for Austin-area teams in the area round of the postseason. Vandegrift blew past San Antonio Sotomayor at the Alamodome 51-0, but LBJ, which had the looks of making a deep run in the Class 4A Division I field, fell to La Vernia in Seguin.

Friday night brings the rest of Central Texas into the playoff fold, with Westlake, Lake Travis, Georgetown, Liberty Hill, Pflugerville and Bastrop all in action as well as others across Classes 6A, 5A, 4A and 3A.

After being down 45-7 in the second quarter, Reedy has rattled off 35 unanswered points and now trail Georgetown 45-42 with 8 minutes to go in the game.

This is a week after Georgetown raced out to a 28-0 first half lead before surviving a double-overtime thriller with Burleson Centennial 48-42.

Georgetown has extended its lead over Reedy to 38-7 as Xavier Warren scored on a 15-yard run and Alex Wilson returned an interception 57-yards with 8 minutes remaining in the half.

Taking advantage of Hayes Brodhead's punt block that put the ball inside the Brennan 2, Westlake scored as Rees Wise found Cullen Devine all alone in the end zone to give the Chaps a 7-0 with 00:30 seconds left in the opening quarter.

Vandegrift, 11-1, will take on the District 29 champs, Cibolo Steele, next Friday afternoon in the Regional semi-finals at the Alamodome. The Knights have reeled off eight straight wins since being pounded by Westlake 41-16 in week 4 of the regular season.

Wimberley punched its ticket to the 4A Division II regional semis with a dominant 62-21 win over Rockport-Fulton.

The Texans (10-2), winners of eight straight, will face the winner of the Cuero - Geronimo Navarro tilt.

In a battle of contrasting styles, La Vernia came back from a 7-3 halftime deficit to knock off previously undefeated LBJ 13-10 in a 4A Division I Area round game in Seguin last night.

The Bears' ferocious defense limited 10-1 LBJ to just a 4th quarter field goal.

In a 4A Division I tussle, Dumas has jumped out to a 14-7 first quarter lead over Lampasas.

The 9-2 Badgers are looking to advance to the third round for the first time since the 2019 season which ended with a 49-42 loss to Carthage in the state Semi-finals.
