Trump Celebrates Neil Cavuto Leaving Fox News With 'Mean Tweet': 'Lowest Rated Anchor On Fox, By Far'

President-elect Donald Trump celebrated the news on Thursday that Fox News anchor Neil Cavuto will be leaving his long-time perch at both Fox News and Fox Business.

Mediaite's Colby Hall broke the news of Cavuto's departure in the morning, ahead of Cavuto's expected announcement on his program. Trump reacted on his Truth Social platform, writing, "GOOD NEWS FOR AMERICA! Neil Cavuto, the Lowest Rated Anchor on Fox, by far, is leaving - Should have happened a long time ago!" Cavuto has been at Fox for 28 years, having joined at its founding.

While Fox did reportedly offer Cavuto a new contract to remain at the network as his was ending, he chose to exit instead, leading to speculation the network was asking him to take a pay cut. NPR's David Folkenflik weighed in on the impact Cavuto's exit will have on the right-of-center network, "Cavuto, a free-markets conservative who was at Fox from the start, is a frequent Trump critic who hosts 12 hours weekly on Fox/Fox Biz. (It was 17 hours when I profiled him in 2018.) It presumably turns over a ton of real estate to Trump-friendly fare."

Many of Cavuto's colleagues at Fox sent him well wishes after the news of his exit broke. Jessica Tarlov wrote, "Hard to put into words what @TeamCavuto means to so many of us at Fox. Nicest guy in the building is an understatement. He gave me, like so many others, a shot when we were just starting and learning the ropes. From the little stuff like telling me which camera to look at to reminding me that my voice was important (insert joke about both of our voices, which have a certain gravely component) to the conversation, he was always so supportive. Did you know that Neil always writes a hand written thank you note when you first appear on his show? Well, now you do. Good luck in whatever comes next, Neil! We'll miss you so much."
