Under the wonderful hospice care of Northwest Colorado Health, Shelby passed away peacefully at home with her husband, daughter and son-in-law by her side.
Shelby fought a courageous 10-year battle against breast cancer. She endured many challenges along the way. She was a true warrior.
Born in Boulder, Colorado to Helyn and Robert Kindig, Shelby is survived by her husband Bruce Guettich, daughter Kayla Guettich and sisters Mayme Ericson and Annabelle Essmas.
Shelby graduated with an associates degree in early childhood education from Colorado Mountain College (CMC) in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Shelby officially moved to Steamboat Springs in 1979 to explore life as a ski bum and to open a childcare business called Shell-Bees. Aside from a short work stint in Dallas, Texas, Shelby spent the majority of her life in Steamboat Springs which she always affectionately referred to as HOME.
In 1996, Shelby opened a home daycare business to care for her daughter and to provide close friends with a safe and loving location for their children. Shelby finished her work years as a Steamboat Springs realtor. Above all else, Shelby was a devoted and loving mother, wife and friend.
Shelby was a social butterfly, goofy, fun-spirited, generous and incredibly loving. She regularly expressed her gratitude for the many friends that blessed her life. The outpouring of love and support by her community during her long health journey overwhelmed her and her family.
Shelby had a deep appreciation for the natural world. She was an outdoorsy girl with a lifetime love for hiking, biking, camping, and skiing. Shelby felt connected to both the energy of the ocean and the mountains. She was proud to have achieved her life goal of having a mountain home and a beach retreat in Florida.
June 21, 2025 has been reserved for a special celebration of life ceremony to honor Shelby and her incredible gift she has given to all. Shelby was born on June 21st which makes this a perfect day to celebrate the anniversary of her birth. Please mark your calendars to join us in Steamboat Springs on the summer solstice to honor and remember this outstanding woman. More information will follow as this date approaches.
