LUCEDALE, Miss. (WKRG) -- The George County Sheriff's Office is investigating after a man was hit and killed by an SUV Thursday night. According to a post on the sheriff's office Facebook Page, 43-year-old James Attaway from Lucedale was hit and killed by an SUV while he was walking near the fairgrounds on Old Highway 63 South.

The sheriff's office said they were continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash. They did not identify the driver of the SUV.

The post goes on to offer safety tips for walkers. The sheriff's office reminds pedestrians to wear bright clothing, especially in low-light situations. They advise people to walk on sidewalks whenever possible or on the left side of the road to see oncoming traffic.
