A San Antonio teacher was arrested last week after he reportedly dropped a bag of meth while on the job, according to published reports. Daniel Anthony Gonzalez was a special education teacher at Mary Hull Elementary School at the time of his arrest.
According to court records online, Gonalez was arrested on December 6 on charges of possessing an illegal substance between 4 and 200 grams and endangering a child. KSAT 12 reports the former educator dropped a matchbox filled with methamphetamine in the elementary school hallway.
The TV news outlet says surveillance footage shows the matchbox fell out of Gonzalez's pocket while he was attempting to unlock a classroom door. However, Northside Independent School District officials say the drug-related charges are not connected to the school or any of its attendees.
"I can confirm a NISD employee (D. Gonzales), a Special Education (SE) teacher at Mary Hull ES, was arrested by NISD police on December 6, 2024, on a drug-related charge(s)," a district spokesperson told MySA. "The drug-related charge was in no way connected to the school, any other staff member, or any student."
Gonzalez has since been placed on administrative leave, but he resigned from his role at the district shortly after. His employment will be formally terminated on December 20.
Gonzalez had worked at the district for more than a decade. He was hired in January of 2012 as an Instructional Assistant at another campus, but he quickly worked his way up the ranks, taking on his role at Mary Hull Elementary School in 2013.
