Nicki Minaj is one of a number of artists who have yet to win a Grammy, and this oddity shocks many people. The fact that one of the most successful musicians of all time-and easily the most commercially dominating females in the hip-hop space-has yet to snag one of the music industry's biggest honors is bewildering to many, but her losing streak may come to an end soon... and even if it doesn't, she may be able to at least break out of a historic tie.
While she's never won a Grammy, Minaj is regularly nominated for them. She's already accrued 12 chances to walk away a winner, with most of her nominations landing her in the rap categories.
Minaj may end up as one of the most-nominated artists at the 2025 Grammys, as she has a wealth of music that's eligible. She's a likely candidate for a number of the rap awards, and if she can return to one field in particular, she'll potentially break her tie with another musician with whom she's feuded in the past.
The superstar has been in the running for Best Rap Performance twice. First, she was nominated for "Moment 4 Life" alongside Drake in 2012. Four years later, she was back, with Drake once more, as well as Lil Wayne on the joint single "Truffle Butter," which competed in 2016.
With just a pair of nods in the Best Rap Performance field, Minaj is tied with Megan Thee Stallion for the second-most nominations among women. Stallion has vied for the trophy with both "Savage" with Beyoncé and then later, "Thot Shit," and she won the first time around.
Only Cardi B-whom Minaj is also not on good terms with-has scored more nominations. She's been included in this category four times, for her singles "Bodak Yellow (Money Moves)," "Be Careful," "Clout" with Offset, and her own "Up," though she's never won this honor.
Minaj only needs to snag one more nomination to best Stallion... though the latter musician also has plenty of tunes that could wind up being featured as well. The two rappers could break their tie, or compete against one another, upping their career totals once more.
For her part, Minaj has quite a few songs she could focus on when it comes to Grammy nominations. Singles like "FTCU," "Big Foot" (a diss track that was aimed at Stallion), and "Everybody" with Lil Uzi Vert are likely candidates, though they're not the only tunes that could be nominated. She may find her name appearing in multiple fields, but should she wind up a possible winner in the Best Rap Performance category, she'll quite possibly make history.
Eligibility for the 2025 Grammys runs from September 16, 2023, through August 30, 2024. The nominees will be named on November 8, and the sixty-seventh annual Grammy Awards will be held on February 2, 2025.
