CHICAGO -- A man was killed after being ejected from his vehicle and two others were injured in a violent crash overnight on the city's South Side.
According to Chicago police, a man driving a black Lexus sedan ran a red light just before 2 a.m. Tuesday going north in the 3500 block of South Ashland Avenue and was hit by an SUV.
Police say the driver of the Lexus was ejected from the vehicle and struck a building in the 3400 block of S. Ashland Ave. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The building, meanwhile, also sustained heavy damage in the crash.
Additionally, police say, a male passenger in the Lexus was transported by the Chicago Fire Department to an area hospital with an injury to his leg, and the driver of the SUV was transported by CFD to an area hospital with an injury to the hand.
The intersection where the crash occurred has been blocked off Tuesday morning as police investigate. They say no other injuries were reported, and Major Accidents is investigating.
